local, late breaking. >> debut of the manhattan skyline tells the story of thousands killed during the september 11 attacks. good evening. we will have more on today's events to honor those who lost their lives in september. first, a heart warming reunion at the airport tonight. dozens of soldiers return. it was a moment some families will never forget. we are at the airport with that story. >> some of the soldiers returning tonight or in an air force reserve unit out of dover. one is a baltimore city principal returning home from iraq on a date which is so significant in our nation's history. a plane full of soldiers returning from overseas and is greeted with cheers. this senior master sgt is

adversaries fear the most. stay true to who we are as americans. renew our sense as common purpose. say that we define the character of our country. >> in pennsylvania, michelle obama and laura bush paid tribute to the crew and passengers aboard flight 93. twin beams lighting up the new york skyline and symbolizing with the twin towers once stood. ceremonies and memorials that serve as reminders that the nation is still warning and healing from the losses of that day. >> with today being the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the 10th anniversary will mean changes for the baltimore area.

the governor announced that the world trade center in baltimore will be maryland's on 9/11 memorial. the memorial will be installed next year. it will include a steal artifacts that will serve as the centerpiece. 11 national guard warriors were honored today. it was a ceremony that honors or years to pay the ultimate price in the global war on terror. the governor was in attendance and was the gas speaker. the florida pastor to arrange the burning of the koran did not go through with it today. he is hoping to meet with the imam who is helping to build the islamic center at ground zero. hundreds gathered at ground zero to support or oppose the project. >> another pretty nice day today. a lot of sun and present temperatures.

70's was the high. a cold front is coming in with some shower activity. we could really use some rain. a few scattered showers are reaching from pennsylvania down around west virginia at this time. that is about it. the storm will generate a little more rain tomorrow night. it would take a look at how the forecast turns out, especially for the week ahead. that is coming up in a few minutes. >> a man convicted under the state's organized gang statutes will get a new trial next week. the baltimore state attorney opposite said the judge heard testimony that included alleged jury misconduct after the juror use the internet to research his prior record. police are searching for a gunman who shot a 15-year-old boy. the teenager was reportedly hit in the arm. another bullet grazed his chest. he is in stable condition.

no word on a possible motive. the search continues for an escaped inmate. paul ryan palmer escaped friday afternoon. he complained of a hand injury -- hand injury. he slipped out of his handcuffs. he was being held on an attempted murder charge. he was last seen at about 8:00 this morning. police believe he is traveling with a female in a silber car. if you have the permission, you're asked to call 911. a vigil took place tonight at war memorial plaza to recognize the impact on victims' families. speakers who had losses of them spells took an opportunity to show support. >> it is feeling for our city.

>> for people are dead after a double-decker bus hit a railroad bridge in syracuse, new york. a spokesman says the bus tried to clear a bridge that was too low. it flipped onto its side. some people were taken to the hospital with injuries. the bus was all but its roots, but it is unclear why. the death toll has been raised to six from the national -- from the gas explosion in california. two more victims were bound in a house that had burned down. it is believed they are the two people that wereeported missing in that neighborhood. officials have not yet confirmed that these are the two unaccounted for. you may remember the controversy surrounding a pornographic movie at college park. this time, the images pop up unexpectedly during a school assembly.

satellite picture in radar combination. there is a band of rain coming at us. there is thunder and lightning in parts of west virginia and maryland. it is pretty spotty. it is at its thinnest in west virginia. it always seems to be the case that we get robbed at with these things. this will be coming in tonight. there will be some developments tomorrow. we may also share a little of that. dispersed band of stop will go through overnight tonight. it will be here shortly after midnight. 78 was the high at the airport. a little more sun than yesterday. 50 and 63 with these perspective lows. 80 was the high. back in 1971, we had 3 inches of rain. it would be nice if we could get some rain. 19 days without any significant rain. 61 in cambridge.

67 of the boardwalk. 66 in westminster. inis also still in the 60's their county. here's the satellite picture. heavy clouds over the northeast portion of the state. here is the front. it is out in ohio. it will be moving to the east. a new low will develop around the outer banks and throw some rain up our way during the day tomorrow. once it moves through, we get another area of high pressure coming in. that would give us a number of days of dry weather during the coming week. for the rest of the night tonight, some showers will move in. southeast winds at about 5 miles per hour. tomorrow, only in the mid-70's for the high. the further south we go, we may see more significant rain. how much rain do we expect?

the potential, according to the computer, is it maybe as much as 0.5 inches. i think that will be the case a little further south. it should be a little less than that. some heavier rain around the outer banks. whether wise and went wise, southeast winds at 5-10 knots. out in the tropics, we have a very strong tropical storm. it looks like it will turn into a hurricane and become a category 3 or 4, passing the serbian islands and headed to bermuda. forecasters are watching a tropical wave in the caribbean. probably by late afternoon or evening, we would try out for a while. our forecast looks like this. 73 tomorrow. again, that racial or chance.
